Shareholder David Cohen Draws on Diverse Background in Public Policy |
David Cohen is known for his direct approach and proven track record in Washington. Clients, colleagues and community members trust his word because he has the knowledge and experience to back it up.
David shares insight into why Brownstein, what issues he is paying attention to and how he got to where he is today.
Why Brownstein? Easy - the energy. Fellow shareholder Steve Demby introduced me to the firm when our paths crossed in my previous role as a lobbyist at a DC non-profit. Immediately, I was impressed with the firm's entrepreneurial spirit, its attitude and the camaraderie. The Brownstein energy quickly won me over. It's these same things that keep me here today.
What are you currently working on? I have a lot of diverse projects going right now that require work with a number of congressional committees. Here's a sampling: • Oversight issues with the House Foreign Affairs Committee • Border security issues with the House/Senate Homeland Security Committee • Cargo and airline safety with the House/Senate Homeland Security Committee • Reinsurance regulatory issues with the Treasury Department
What issue/trend are you currently paying attention to? I'm learning everything I can about the regulatory implementation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. There are so many unanswered questions about the implications of this new legislation for my insurance/reinsurance clients.
What is one piece of advice that you would give to other associates on the shareholder track? The obvious answer is to work hard. But, it's also important to be a team player. Get to know your colleagues. Understand their skill set and area of expertise. Find ways to collaborate on projects together utilizing both of your skill sets.
What keeps you busy outside of work? My three boys. Enough said. |
