Respected Litigator Lawrence Treece Joins Brownstein

The law firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce that Lawrence “Larry” W. Treece has joined the firm's Denver office as a shareholder. Treece is a member of the firm’s litigation department where his practice focuses on antitrust matters, alternative dispute resolution, class action suits, and commercial and securities litigation.

“With more than forty years of experience, Larry is one of the most talented and respected trial lawyers and litigators in Denver,” said Bruce James, managing partner and CEO of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck. “Larry’s long history of producing results for his clients coupled with his extensive litigation knowledge makes him a valuable addition to our litigation group.”

Treece’s litigation practice encompasses complex corporate and commercial cases including litigation of class actions of all types, securities and financial fraud, antitrust, unfair trade practices, business torts, employment, corporate governance and environmental pollution. Treece’s appellate work focuses on cases related to labor, securities, tax, probate, defamation/First Amendment and real estate, as well as truth in lending cases.

Most recently, Treece obtained a defense verdict after a five-week jury trial involving claims of $800 million against his client for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract arising out of a failed effort to acquire six cable regions in Germany. He is currently serving as lead trial counsel in litigation involving control of a major ski resort in Utah, as well as representing a client with regard to losses suffered in a Securities Lending Program maintained by a major bank arising from investments in mortgage backed securities.

Prior to joining Brownstein, Treece served as manager of Sherman & Howard’s litigation department. Over the course of his legal career, he has practiced at Holland & Hart, Holme Roberts & Owen and Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. Several years ago, he had his own litigation boutique with now Supreme Court Justice Mike Bender. From 1976 to 1977, he served as assistant attorney general of the Antitrust Division for the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. From 1970 to 1975, Treece was an associate professor of law at the University of Colorado, teaching contracts, constitutional law, the First Amendment and federal courts. Additionally, he has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver School of Law teaching antitrust law.

Treece is a member of the Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association. On multiple occasions, he has been named in Best Lawyers in America in the area of commercial litigation and antitrust, as well as being recognized by Colorado Super Lawyers.

Treece received his law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law where he graduated first in his class and received the Order of the Coif. He also received his bachelor’s of arts from the University of Colorado where he graduated cum laude.
