Bruce L. Plotkin

As chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology group, Bruce's practice focuses on privacy and data security, technology transactions and complex corporate intellectual property matters. He is a leading practitioner in the field of privacy and data security and is actively engaged in some of the most challenging technology and emerging business model implementations implicating privacy regulation today.

Bruce works with state and federal regulators on policy development and novel and complex compliance issues enabling clients to navigate the often vague and rapidly changing regulatory landscape. When clients’ security is breached, Bruce provides timely and knowledgeable direction on regulatory notice requirements and liability mitigation. He has extensive experience developing comprehensive regulatory compliance remediation plans for different types of businesses in a variety of industries.

As an intellectual property lawyer with over 20 years experience in technology-related transactions, Bruce provides sophisticated guidance to clients engaged in technology development, acquisition, licensing and disposition activities. He enables technology companies to employ industry leading strategies while bringing high-level large transaction experience to non-technology companies.

Bruce has been a frequent speaker on subjects related to privacy, technology and the law at seminars around the country. He is author of numerous articles and chapters on intellectual property and privacy developments.

Bruce has been an Adjunct Professor in intellectual property at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, teaching core courses in intellectual property and seminars on technology and the law for over a decade. He is active in his community through a variety of volunteer board positions and has chaired numerous charitable and political fundraisers. Bruce is immediate Past Chair of the Jewish Community Foundation in Denver.

Representative Matters

Represented Riviera Holdings Corporation, a Las Vegas casino operator, in negotiating the terms of the $76 million sale of its Riviera Black Hawk casino in Colorado to an affiliate of Monarch Casino & Resort, Inc. The transaction was structured as a sale of 100 percent of the common stock of the Riviera subsidiary operating the Black Hawk casino.
Represented Hard Rock Hotel Holdings, LLC in connection with the licensing of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa, an Indian casino owned by the Cherokee Nation, and the Hard Rock Hotel and Hard Rock Casino Albuquerque, an Indian casino owned by the Pueblo of Isleta.
