Christine A. Samsel

Christine's practice focuses on advising companies on all aspects of labor and employment law on a nationwide basis, with particular focus on California, Colorado and the eastern United States. She advises companies and investors in conducting due diligence with respect to labor and employment issues involved in corporate transactions and financial restructuring. She assists companies in implementing reductions in force, negotiating employment contracts and severance agreements and conducting internal investigations.

 

Christine represents clients in affirmative action, wage-and-hour, immigration compliance and employment policy audits conducted internally and by federal and state agencies. She also frequently advises and counsels on and litigates Title III matters.

 

Possessing extensive trial and arbitration experience in employment-related matters, Christine has defended companies and management in employment litigation and administrative proceedings and has prosecuted and defended unfair competition and trade secret claims. She also has significant appellate experience in the employment area and general civil litigation context. She has handled a wide variety of federal, state and local administrative proceedings before the EEOC, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and comparable state agencies.

 

Christine frequently conducts in-house training for clients on various topics, including sexual harassment and conducting internal investigations.

 

Prior to joining the firm, Christine was a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where she served as the head of the firm’s Labor & Employment practice group in the firm’s McLean, Virginia office. Before the merger with Akin Gump in 2001, Christine was a partner at Troop Steuber Pasich Reddick & Tobey in Los Angeles.

 

Representative Matters

Assisted Vail Resorts, Inc. and its subsidiary Specialty Sports Ventures, LLC with employment and ERISA issues associated with the acquisition of Outdoor Outlet, LLC, a Wisconsin-based company that owns and operates O2GearShop.com, an online retailer of outdoor/snowsports goods and equipment.
Provided ERISA and employment advice in connection with Vail Resorts, Inc.'s $63 million acquisition of Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort in California.
Represented Vail Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: MTN) in its acquisition of Mountain News Corporation (MNC), which operates the world's most visited online snow sports portal, OnTheSnow.com.  Mountain News Corporation is the top provider of snow reports to more than 1,200 web sites throughout the world, including approximately 400 news media websites.
