Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce that Michael Stratton, Joan Coplan and Sara Martin have joined its Denver and Washington, D.C., offices. The group previously worked for Stratton-Carpenter & Associates, a business and public affairs consulting firm based in Denver.
“This group further solidifies Brownstein’s reputation as a political powerhouse in Washington, D.C., and in Denver,” said Marc Lampkin, managing partner of Brownstein’s Washington, D.C., office and co-chair of the firm’s Government Relations Department. “Mike’s knowledge on trade, coupled with his unique experience around the nation, complements our established government relations talent and enables us to expand our reach.”
Michael Stratton will be a senior policy director at the firm and will split his time between D.C. and Denver with a focus on government relations efforts. His work will include advocacy for clients here and abroad. Prior to joining Brownstein, he co-founded his own firm, Stratton-Carpenter & Associates, where he was primarily involved in public affairs, real estate development and business consulting. He is a prominent Colorado civic and business leader and one of the nation’s most well-known political consultants. He has worked in scores of campaigns around the country at every level of the electoral process, in roles varying from press secretary to consultant to manager. He began his career as a reporter, spent time in Washington, D.C., as a staff member in the U.S. Senate and served in the Clinton and Carter administrations. Stratton’s work with the Democratic Governors Association and National Association of Attorneys General provides him with comprehensive international experience. He is also bringing with him Joan Coplan and Sara Martin from his team.
Joan Coplan will serve as a policy director where she will oversee local and regional political and public affairs strategies for local and national commercial clients, corporate government relations, and special events planning. Joan has more than 20 years of experience in communications and political campaigns, including roles on four different presidential campaigns. In various capacities, she has served senators, congressmen, governors, and others, including Ken Salazar, Tom Strickland, Roy Romer, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Michael Dukakis and Gary Hart.
Sara Martin will serve as a policy advisor at the firm where she will execute client deliverables, build grassroots coalitions and help plan special events. She is well versed in many sectors including energy, health care, labor, environment, financial services and numerous other issues.
