Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce that Jodi Stephens, a senior policy advisor in the firm’s Reno office, has joined Spread the Word Nevada’s board of directors. This non-profit organization is dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Nevada’s at-risk, low-income communities. With a professional degree in secondary education as well as experience spearheading education policy as a congressional, gubernatorial and Senate staffer, Stephens offers the board an educator’s perspective and knowledge on navigating Nevada’s ever-changing education policy.
“As a mother with a background in education, I understand the importance reading plays in a child’s educational success,” Stephens said. “Spread the Word Nevada is working to ensure that every student in Nevada has an opportunity to develop a love of reading by placing books in the hands of our most at-risk students. I am honored to be a part of such an outstanding organization.”
Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed 4.7 million gently used and new books to 515,000 low-income youth in Southern Nevada. The organization helps promote a love of reading, future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts lifelong success.
