Case Alert: NMFS Issues Draft of Important Guidance Document for the Recovery of Endangered Southern California Steelhead-Comments Requested

On July 25, 2009, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) released its Draft Recovery Plan to restore and maintain steelhead trout in coastal streams from the United States-Mexican border north to the Santa Maria River. The Draft Plan aims to recover a distinct population of steelhead whose numbers have declined to fewer than 500. NMFS’ goals include protecting existing populations and habitats and restoring and maintaining suitable habitat conditions to support viable populations.
