The Nevada Supreme Court’s January 28, 2010 ruling in Great Basin Water Network v. Nevada State Engineer casts doubt on the validity of any water rights based on permits issued prior to 2002, which were not approved within one year after the protest deadline. The Acting Nevada State Engineer has stated that the ruling could affect over 14,000 water rights issued between 1947 and 2002, and that the litigation arising from the Court’s ruling could cause gridlock in the State’s water rights system.  To read more, please view the PDF.
