The last hearing held by the House Financial Services Committee before the month-long August recess included in its title a straightforward question: “Are We More Prosperous?” Nearly eight years removed from the start of the Great Recession and at the five-year anniversary of the Dodd-Frank Act, those who championed the financial overhaul are answering that question in the affirmative. In claiming victory, they most often (at least until this week) cite record growth on Wall Street. But ask that same question on Main Street and you will get a much different answer.
