Compensability of Meal Breaks in Patient Care Environments

One of the most complicated aspects of employment-related compliance for health care organizations is providing and ensuring uninterrupted meal breaks for non-exempt, or hourly, employees. The federal Fair Labor Standards Act of 19381 (FLSA) provides some helpful guidance with case law interpreting its statutes and regulations, but state and local laws can muddy the water.
