Jared Polis made history Tuesday night becoming the first openly gay elected governor in our country. Take a moment to let that sink in.
Colorado has come a long way since 1992 when voters approved Amendment 2, which was proposed by a group called, Colorado for Family Values. The group’s goal was to “stop gay activists before they trample on your freedoms.”
Twenty-six years later that ugly sentiment that once resonated with more than half of Colorado’s voters feels almost laughable as Polis’ family prepares to move into the governor’s mansion and fight for the future of an entire state. How did we get here?
