Brownstein Achieves Mansfield Certification 4.0; Recognized with Mansfield Certification Plus Designation

September 13, 2021

For the fourth consecutive year, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck achieved Mansfield Certification from the Diversity Lab, which acknowledges the firm’s commitment to leading the charge toward greater diversity and inclusion in the legal industry. Brownstein is one of 118 leading law firms who achieved certification after completing a rigorous 12-month program.

Mansfield Rule Certification measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered women, attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ attorneys and attorneys with disabilities—at least 30% of the candidate pool—for recruitment, governance roles, equity partner promotions and inclusion in formal pitch presentations to clients. Additionally, for the second consecutive year, Brownstein was further recognized with the “Plus” designation, indicating that, in addition to meeting or exceeding the baseline requirements, Brownstein has successfully reached at least 30% diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of its current leadership roles. The firm continues to partner with Diversity Lab and will be part of the 5.0 cohort.

“We are proud to earn Mansfield Certification for the fourth consecutive year as well as the Plus designation for the second year in a row,” said Rich Benenson, the firm’s managing partner.

“At Brownstein, we are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce and tracking our progress through recruitment and retention initiatives, shareholder promotions and firm leadership roles,” said Ali Metzl, the firm’s chair of diversity, inclusion and equity and founder and co-chair of Brownstein’s Women’s Leadership Initiative.

The firm has also been recognized for its diversity efforts, including receiving a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation on the Corporate Equality Index beginning in 2020, ranking second on Law 360’s 2020 Ceiling Smashers list for firms (251‒600 attorneys) with the highest representation of women in their equity partnerships, ranking sixth on The American Lawyer’s 2020 list of firms with the highest percentage of female equity partners and being named as one of Working Mother’s “Best Law Firms for Women” in 2019 and 2020. Brownstein received the 2021 Innovation Award from the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce for its creative solutions and practices that develop employees, support their needs and advance women in business.
