Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce that Bart Reising is joining the firm on Tuesday, Jan. 21, as a policy director in the Government Relations Department. He will be based in the Washington, D.C., office. Most recently, Reising served as deputy chief of staff in the Office of the Majority Leader.
“No one in Washington has their finger on the pulse of the House Republican Conference more than Bart,” said Will Moschella, co-chair of the firm’s Government Relations Department. “Bart is one of the few people who has worked in a member’s personal office, on a major caucus committee and in leadership offices. He was also in a leadership role in 2017 during the last Republican trifecta. His experience whipping legislation for Majority Leader Scalise gives him great insight into the Republican Conference and the forthcoming focus on reconciliation.”
“Bart is one of the longest-serving members of my team, and is one of the most well-liked and knowledgeable staffers on Capitol Hill,” said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. “As my Deputy Chief of Staff and Member Services Director, he has worked with hundreds of my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to make sure their needs and priorities were heard and attended to. He has been instrumental to the success of House Republicans over the last 14 years and has guided members and mentored staff as they navigate the complexities of getting things done in Congress. I am deeply appreciative of all he has done for me and the institution, and I know he will be incredibly successful in his next chapter.”
Reising has served over a decade with Republican Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), building his experience with the workings of GOP party politics. During his time in the legislature, Reising helped guide legislative victories on bills including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the American Rescue Plan, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act and the bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority.
Reising began his 14-year career on Capitol Hill in the House of Representatives as the director of operations for Reps. Scalise and Austin Scott (R-GA), as well as former Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX), developing skills in congressional dynamics and the communication between the executive branch, the legislature and constituents. He went on to become the director of member services for then-Republican Whip Scalise. In this role, he helped steer legislation in the 2017–2019 Republican trifecta. Most recently, he was selected as Majority Leader Scalise’s deputy chief of staff, making him a critical figure managing the congressman’s office and legislative agenda.
“When I was looking to leave the Hill, Brownstein stood out as a leader in Washington. I’m excited to join the high-caliber team at Brownstein as it mirrors the high-caliber team I worked with in the Leader’s office,” said Reising. “I am prepared to hit the ground running and given my role in Majority Leader Scalise’s office, I will initially focus on helping clients navigate reconciliation.”
Reising earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi.
