R. James “Jim” Nicholson, senior counsel at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, recently received the annual award for lifetime public service from the Colorado Nonprofit Association. Presented at the Association’s annual awards luncheon on March 7, the award recognizes an individual whose career as an elected or appointed official has exemplified the highest level of commitment to the nonprofit community.
Active in the Denver nonprofit community for many years, Nicholson currently serves on the Daniels Fund Board of Directors, and is a former board chairman for Volunteers of America in Colorado. Nicholson is also director of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc.
Prior to joining Brownstein, Nicholson served as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Additionally, he is a past chairman of the Republican National Committee and once served as U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. Nicholson began his career as a lawyer and developer in Denver.
