The American Lawyer Law Firm Management Forum to Feature Bruce James

Bruce James, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck managing partner and CEO, is a featured presenter at The American Lawyer’s Law Firm Management Forum New Markets and New Opportunities for Growth panel on Oct. 27.
James will join fellow presenter Philip Kessler, chairman of Butzel Long, to discuss law firm growth via geographic expansion and the addition of new practice groups.

Under James’ leadership, Brownstein has grown from approximately 95 lawyers and policy advisors located in three offices in 2003 to more than 240 lawyers and policy advisors today, across 12 offices. The firm has expanded its geographic footprint across the West through two strategic mergers and added several new practice groups to respond to the needs of its clients and diversify the offerings of the firm. In January 2007, the firm merged with Las Vegas-based Schreck Brignone and in January 2008 with California-based Hatch & Parent. Through a clearly articulated vision, James has nearly doubled the size of the firm as a result of these mergers. James will draw on this recent experience as he discusses the strategies and practices he employed during this growth period and lend advice to participants on how they can successfully navigate the growth of their own firms as the market recovers.

As law firm management is rapidly changing, many law firms are reexamining their standard business practices. The Law Firm Management Forum for managing partners, COOs, CFOs, executive committee members, management committee members and practice area leaders will discuss trends and predications for the future of the law firm model. This forum will present a forward look at the law firm model and provide suggestions on how to adjust firm management to be poised for success when the market recovers.

The Law Firm Management Forum will take place at the Harvard Club of New York City on Oct. 27 and 28.
