Kaufman, Joanna S.

With a unique skill set combining her background in urban planning and sustainable transportation and experience in community outreach and advocacy, Joanna Kaufman helps clients navigate regulatory and financial barriers in their land use projects. She has extensive experience in urban planning, bicycle and pedestrian planning, research and community development. At Brownstein, Joanna works closely with attorneys on complicated land use and development projects on the Central Coast, including entitlement and strategy for cannabis cultivation, single-family and multifamily housing development projects and completing due diligence review.

Prior to joining Brownstein, Joanna served as a program director for the Coalition for Sustainable Transportation in Santa Barbara, where she managed all aspects of advocacy, development and outreach programs, and as a planning technician for the cities of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. She was also a project leader for Commons Collaborative, where she conducted research and outreach on community land trusts and cooperatives focused on affordable housing.
