Cassidy Merriam is passionate about building strong brand identities. She counsels clients on brand strategy and helps them secure, protect and monetize trademark rights, both domestically and abroad. She serves clients in a variety of industries, including entertainment, fashion, cosmetics and beauty, vitamins and supplements, food and beverage, hospitality, real estate, advertising and technology. On their behalf, Cassidy handles trademark selection, clearance, filing and prosecution; brand monitoring and enforcement; anti-counterfeiting efforts with global Customs authorities; opposition and cancellation proceedings; and worldwide brand expansion strategy and portfolio management.
She also advises clients on related issues, such as national and international copyright counseling, clearance and registration; online enforcement against copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and counterfeiting; rights of publicity and privacy; advertising and marketing practices; sponsorship and endorsement agreements; IP licensing; domain name acquisition and disputes; IP issues on social media; brand image and consistency initiatives; and brand-related agreements.
Prior to joining Brownstein, Cassidy was an associate at the boutique IP firms of Blakely Sokoloff Taylor & Zafman LLP in Los Angeles and Ladas & Parry in New York. She also served as an intern with legal departments at Universal Music Group, the Brooklyn Nets basketball team and Silvergate Media.
