Paul is a patent attorney practicing since 1999 on life science and chemical issues in the areas of patent prosecution, strategic patent portfolio advice, reexaminations, clearance counseling, diligence analysis, opinion counsel, and post grant proceedings.
Over the course of his career Paul has represented large and small pharmaceutical companies, chemical manufacturing interests, biotechnology companies, energy and fuel developers, medical device companies, federal facilities and universities.
Prior to joining Brownstein, Paul was a partner at Merchant & Gould law firm. Before attending law school, Paul obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Experimental Pathology for his thesis focused on the role of an accessory protein in steroid hormone receptor-DNA interactions and function.
Paul enjoys hiking and fishing, and he spends most of his time outside the office with his wife and five children. He has coached youth basketball and baseball, and is active in a number of community endeavors.
Paul is the first author or co-author of numerous peer reviewed scientific journal articles.
