Commission announces tentative allocation of €150 billion under SAFE to boost Defence Readiness ‒ The European Commission has adopted a tentative allocation of €150 billion in financial assistance to strengthen defence readiness across the European Union under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program. This will allow EU Member States to prepare their national investment plans to be presented by the end of November 2025.
Ukraine expects $3.5 billion fund for U.S. weapons, Zelenskyy says ‒ President Volodymyr Zelensky said he anticipates there will be roughly $3.5 billion by October in the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) to acquire weapons from the United States to help sustain Ukraine’s fight against Russia.
Denmark picks French-Italian SAMP/T air defense system over Patriot ‒ Denmark plans to purchase the French-Italian SAMP/T system to support the long-range component of the integrated ground-based air defenses Denmark is building. The Danish government plans to invest roughly $9.1 billion to buy and operate eight medium- and long-range air defense systems, with two SAMP/T systems.
Australia commits to $8 billion investment towards naval shipbuilding, AUKUS prep ‒Australia has announced a $7.9 billion investment to develop the Henderson Defence Precinct, which will support the construction of landing craft, frigates and infrastructure for future nuclear-powered submarines under AUKUS. This initiative is part of Australia’s $46 billion defense expansion over the next decade, marking the largest peacetime military investment in Australian history and boosting submarine operations with allied countries.
U.S. to ease military drone sales process ‒ The U.S. Department of State will now evaluate foreign sales of military drones under the same framework used for crewed aircraft, easing previous restrictions tied to the 1987 Missile Technology Control Regime and aiming to accelerate approvals. This policy shift is expected to benefit U.S. drone manufacturers and open sales to additional U.S. allies and partners.
