Adama Iwu Recognized with 2025 Alumni Honors Award from University of San Diego

October 17, 2025

Adama Iwu, a policy director on Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s State Government Relations team, has been honored with the 2025 Bishop Charles Francis Buddy Humanitarian Award from the University of San Diego. Presented annually, the award recognizes alumni who exemplify the university’s mission and have made extraordinary contributions to humanitarian causes—advancing human welfare, dignity, justice and freedom.

In October of 2017, the Los Angeles Times published an open letter—led by Iwu and signed by over 140 women—on the pervasive culture of sexual harassment, discrimination and assault in politics. This resulted in the creation of the We Said Enough Foundation, whose mission is to eliminate bullying, harassment and assault in the workplace. In December of 2017, Time magazine recognized Iwu as a Silence Breaker and featured her on the cover of its People of the Year edition. Today, she continues to champion legislative reform and workplace justice, with a focus on protecting and empowering marginalized voices.

Alongside her advocacy, Iwu brings a unique blend of policy expertise and strategic thinking to clients navigating the complexities of state and federal government. Her leadership experience in the private sector allows her to advise companies on nationwide, business-oriented state government relations solutions.

Iwu earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego. To learn more about the 2025 Alumni Honors Awards, click here.
