March 5, 2026

Bruce James, a shareholder in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Real Estate Department and former managing partner of the firm, has been inducted into the Denver & Colorado Tourism Hall of Fame by Visit Denver for his influential leadership that helped shape Denver’s hospitality industry and advance its growth as a premier destination. Induction into the Denver & Colorado Tourism Hall of Fame is the highest recognition within Denver and Colorado’s hospitality industry, and James is the first attorney to be inducted into the Tourism Hall of Fame in its 26-year history.

For over 35 years, James has been a prominent Denver attorney and civic leader whose work has helped define the city’s modern landscape—from the redevelopment of Union Station and Dairy Block to signature hotels such as the Populus, Crawford, Art Hotel, Maven, Clio and Oxford. He has also served as lead counsel on a number of major hospitality projects across the United States and the Caribbean.

A strong advocate for the city, James has played a significant role in Denver’s civic and political landscape. He served as co-chair of former Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s successful 2011, 2015 and 2019 mayoral campaigns. He has also chaired Visit Denver and Downtown Denver, Inc., co-chaired the16th Street Mall Steering Committee, and served on the Denver 2030 Winter Olympics Exploratory Committee and the 2026 Denver World Cup Bid Committee. James also served as co-chair of the Downtown Denver Security Action Plan Task Force as the downtown business community—in collaboration with government officials—sought to find solutions to ensure Denver remains a clean, safe and vibrant city.

James inspires confidence among both his clients and colleagues through strong leadership. He served as managing partner at Brownstein for a decade, guiding the firm’s growth from 80 lawyers to more than 250 lawyers and policy advisors. He also served as general counsel for the firm and co-chair of the Real Estate Department.

James was recognized at the 26th Annual Denver & Colorado Tourism Hall of Fame Dinner on March 4.
