Water & Wastes Digest has named Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Jessica Diaz a 2018 Young Water Professional honoree. The 2018 Young Professional award highlights noteworthy rising stars in the water industry who have demonstrated exemplary performance in a water-related field.
Assisting clients on a broad range of California water rights matters, Jessica’s practice encompasses water rights litigation and transactions, counsel on compliance with state surface water regulations, and preparation and filing of reports with the State Water Resources Control Board. Jessica works with both water providers and private property owners on land use and water regulatory matters, including issues related to the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Coastal Act, and local land use law.
“Jessica possesses a unique understanding of California water rights matters and their impact on infrastructure, development, farming and the general public,” said Steven Amerikaner, managing partner of the Santa Barbara office. “What sets her apart is that she is able to use this knowledge and turn it into actions to help her clients navigate their most complex water issues.”
Jessica was recently named a 2018 Water Leader with the Water Education Foundation, which recognizes rising community leaders from diverse backgrounds, enhances skills and prepares the next generation to tackle water resource issues. She also participated in Santa Barbara’s American Planning Association 2016 Planning Academy. Jessica has spoken on water issues throughout the state, including moderating a panel at the California Groundwater Resources Association legislative symposium, serving as a panelist on green versus grey infrastructure at the 14th Annual Calif. Water Law Symposium, and teaching NBI seminars on water rights fundamentals and water-related due diligence in real estate transactions.
