Scott Slater Recognized as a 2022 West Trailblazer by The American Lawyer
Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce that Scott Slater, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, was named to The American Lawyer’s 2022 West Trailblazers list. Now in its second year, the list recognizes professionals in the West who have moved the needle in the legal industry.
Slater is a best-in-class water rights transactional attorney and litigator delivering strategic solutions and securing reliable water supplies for his clients. Handling some of the nation’s most complex and cutting-edge water deals, he is respected for his relentless pursuit of alignments that can improve the status quo. Whether helping guide private companies to serve as public stewards of their water resources or representing public agencies meeting the resource needs of their constituents, Slater’s ingenuity often shifts the paradigm away from win-lose and zero sum outcomes to those featuring shared risk and rewards. His famed understanding of water law, especially in water scarce areas, has led him to play an integral role in shaping both national and international water code. He is the author of the treatise—California Water Law and Policy—frequently cited by judges and attorneys.
“People can find signature incentives for cooperative outcomes in successful deals,” Slater told The American Lawyer. “My work consistently reflects these principles, whether it is sustainable groundwater management, market-based water transfers or the development of infrastructure.”
