Colton J. Stadtmiller

Policy Analyst

Background

Leveraging his experience in labor policy and workforce development, Colton Stadtmiller supports the California State Government Relations team through detailed analysis, legislative tracking and strategic insights. With a strong background in community outreach and extensive experience navigating complex state bureaucratic processes, Colton leverages his expertise as a five-time gubernatorial appointee across two administrations to craft strategic plans, drive large-scale policy initiatives and strengthen stakeholder relationships to achieve client goals.

Before joining Brownstein, Colton was appointed by California Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. and reappointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom as special assistant to four successive California secretaries of labor at the Labor and Workforce Development Agency, including California’s first Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latina/Latino and LGBTQ+ secretary of labor.

There, he advised the secretary and undersecretary on communications, facilitated interagency coordination with other California agencies and assisted oversight of departmental operations, ensuring alignment with the governor’s directives and federal compliance across the several departments, boards, and panels under the agency’s jurisdiction throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before that, Colton was an executive assistant and constituent affairs representative for the Office of Gov. Brown, supporting senior advisors and the appointments unit overseeing 3,000 executive branch positions.
