Background

Zafar Ahsan’s technical background and legal research experience make him a valuable contributor to the firm’s intellectual property practice. His work with the Colorado courts, law firms and engineering roles has equipped him with a unique perspective on legal issues involving emerging technologies, patent law and regulatory frameworks.

Zafar gained hands-on experience with the Colorado Court of Appeals, where he researched and drafted preliminary judicial opinions. He also researched the constitutional framework of patent law while in law school. He further developed his legal skills during two summer associate terms with Brownstein, before returning full-time. He supported patent prosecution attorneys with claim sets, office actions and memos on artificial intelligence (AI) regulation and asylum law. He is also committed to serving his community, having been a field manager to help raise money for Environment Colorado.

Before entering law school, Zafar worked in engineering roles where he led automation projects in product manufacturing and participated in the company’s leadership development program. He also contributed to large-scale infrastructure upgrades in Charlotte and Baltimore.
