Greg Berger Recognized as Brownstein’s 2025 Steve Farber Legacy Award Recipient
Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck proudly recognizes Shareholder Greg Berger—chair of the firm’s Tax Group—as the recipient of the 2025 Steve Farber Legacy Award. Established in memory of firm cofounder Steve Farber—whose visionary leadership, commitment to public service and drive to “make the impossible possible” continue to shape Brownstein’s culture—the award honors a Brownstein professional who achieves exceptional outcomes for clients, contributes to their industry and invests in the success of their colleagues.
“Greg embodies and illustrates so well the values, the approach and the culture that Steve has infused into our firm,” said Rich Benenson, the firm’s managing partner. “Greg is a consummate team player—always willing to say yes, always smart, strategic and thoughtful in his interactions, and really instrumental in driving client successes. On top of that, he’s a culture champion.”
Berger’s influence extends beyond internal leadership—his work with clients and policymakers has shaped major tax legislation and advanced the firm’s national reputation. He helps clients navigate tax elements related to corporate transactions and tax policy, and he regularly collaborates with his colleagues in the Government Relations Department to represent clients before Congress and the Treasury Department on noteworthy tax policy and legislative issues.
Over the years, Berger has played an instrumental role in significant legislative tax proposals such as the CARES Act, the creation of Opportunity Zones in the 2017 Tax Cuts Jobs Act, the Small Business Job Acts of 2010, FIRPTA reform and distressed debt issues. His leadership was also key in the formation of Brownstein’s Tax Policy Group and in helping attract, retain and integrate top tax talent—an effort that has significantly strengthened the firm.
“Greg is one of those rare colleagues who works in all of our offices and across all of our departments,” said Elizabeth Paulsen, chair of the firm’s Corporate & Business Department. “When we took on the Tax Policy Group, Greg stepped up in a major way … Not only does he know what the law says, but he knows why the law is written the way it is—and that makes us much more strategic in our advice to clients.”
“I think the single best attribute that Greg Berger has—he is an incredible colleague. Greg is there for you—to help you, to make you and the firm look better,” said Founder and Chairman Norm Brownstein.
Berger was recognized at the firm’s 2025 All Attorney & Policy Retreat on Oct. 18. To see the video highlighting his achievements, watch below.
