As co-chair of Brownstein’s Tax Group, Greg Berger helps clients navigate tax elements related to corporate transactions and tax policy. He regularly collaborates with his colleagues in the government relations group to represent clients before Congress and Treasury on noteworthy tax policy and legislative issues. Over the years, Greg has played an instrumental role in significant legislative tax proposals such as the CARES Act, the creation of Opportunity Zones in the 2017 Tax Cuts Jobs Act, the Small Business Job Acts of 2010, FIRPTA reform and distressed debt issues.
Greg counsels clients on the nuances of a wide range of tax matters including corporate and partnership taxation, opportunity zone fund structuring, joint ventures, acquisitions, real estate transactions, private equity transactions, state and local taxation and public finance. His ability to look at the big picture and extensive legal knowledge make him an asset to companies across all industries.
Greg previously served as chair of the firm’s Corporate Business Department.
Representative Matters
- Provided tax restructuring advice to the joint venture between Invent Development Partners and Halpern Real Estate Ventures, which owns Train Denver. This 125,000 square foot development site located in the River North Arts (RiNo) section of Denver will feature retail, residential, hotel and office space. Approximately 45,000 square feet of the site is located in an Opportunity Zone.
