Background
Sarah Dewar provides comprehensive counsel to businesses seeking to protect their brands through trademark and copyright protection and enforcement.
With a client-first approach, Sarah works closely with clients to understand their business goals and risk tolerance to build strong, enduring brands. She guides on trademark clearance and prosecution, with experience overseeing international trademark portfolio strategy development. She counsels clients on trademark enforcement involving cease and desist letters, e-commerce take-down requests, domain name disputes, and TTAB proceedings.
In addition to her trademark practice, Sarah provides copyright counseling through the stages of registration, maintenance, and enforcement. Her work also includes trademark and copyright litigation, where she represents clients in federal court to defend and enforce their valuable intellectual property assets. She has experience negotiating and drafting a wide range of intellectual property agreements, including trademark and copyright license, assignment, coexistence, and settlement agreements. She also advises on marketing and advertising contracts involving brand collaborations, influencers and endorsements, and publishing.
Sarah supports clients across a broad range of industries, including consumer products, technology, communications and media, and hospitality and recreation. In her pro bono practice, Sarah often works with nonprofits to prepare agreements in the arts, including for exhibitions, museum events, and other cultural programming.
