Travis has significant experience in defamation and media-related disputes, defending clients’ reputations in preventing the publication of damaging stories and representing them in litigation when necessary. He regularly handles anti-SLAPP motion practice in Nevada and elsewhere and consults on how to leverage or avoid these statutory protections, depending on his clients’ goals. Travis’ broader litigation experience spans entertainment and talent management disputes, labor and employment matters, securities and governance litigation and commercial construction and real estate matters. Representative Matters
- Obtained reversal, from Nevada Supreme Court, of orders dismissing case under anti-SLAPP statute and awarding hundreds of thousands of dollars in attorneys fees and costs.
- Secured dismissal, by anti-SLAPP motion, of defamation-based complaint against foreign correspondent of state-operated news organization.
- Represented large luxury resort and casino in federal court wage class and collective action. After hearing and substantial briefing, we achieved a partial dismissal of the claims of current and former employees who allege they were not properly paid their tips while working for our client, substantially limiting the timeframe at issue to less than 5 weeks.
- Provided claim and dispute advice to owner of multimillion dollar, multifamily housing project against general contractor’s claims related to delays, overages, errors and omissions, and mechanic’s liens. All claims were settled allowing project to timely finish and preserve owner’s financing obligations.
- Defeated minority member’s attempt at a takeover of control of limited liability company by fraudulent and intentionally tortious methods in case that included derivative claims. The case settled prior to trial with the minority member relinquishing all interests in the company.
- Represented commercial lease tenant in lawsuit brought against landlord for bad faith refusal to consent to an assignment of lease and successfully obtained preliminary injunction against landlord’s attempt to terminate lease and evict.
