Background
A dedicated advocate and problem-solver, Steven Stenzler leverages his public policy expertise to move the needle on the most relevant issues impacting Californians. His demonstrated experience drafting, negotiating and advancing complex and contentious proposals through the legislative process makes him a valuable asset to clients looking to engage with the legislature.
During his 10 years working in and around the state legislature, Steven helped negotiate some of the most consequential policies of the last decade, including the re-authorization of California’s landmark Cap-and-Trade program, the establishment of statewide renter protections through the Tenant Protection Act of 2019 and the creation of the Invasive Species Council of California to help safeguard unique environmental heritage. While working for Assembly Banking Chair Timothy Grayson, Steven focused on policies to address California’s pervasive housing affordability crisis. He shepherded numerous impactful housing policies through the legislative process, including bills to streamline transit oriented development, reform the way that development impact fees are calculated and create the state’s first housing data strategy.
With a professional focus on housing and land use policy, he drives the conversation on behalf of clients, focusing on streamlining, upzoning, reducing fees and expanding homeownership opportunities. Recent wins include the establishment of timelines for housing permits, the creation of a first-of-its kind ADU amnesty program and the passage of a law to help affordable housing developers reinvest millions into the California housing market.
