Brownstein Volunteers Help Boys & Girls Club Members with Summer Reading Goals

July 19, 2018

A group of Brownstein volunteers spent Tuesday morning reading with young members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver to help students reach their goals as the club’s Summer Reading Program winds down.

The reading project took place at the William E. Cope Club, which is part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Membership is open to anyone age 6-18 and offers after-school and summer programs for $2 a year that support college and career preparation, healthy lifestyles and civic engagement.

Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver tallied more than 8,500 service hours in their neighborhoods. About 75 percent of club members graduated from high school on time compared to 60 percent of low-income students at schools in the metro Denver area. More than 250 middle school-aged and teen members participated in career exploration programs, and 85 percent of all Metro Denver Club members expect to complete a 4-year college education.

The reading project was part of the firm’s Karma program, which encourages Brownstein employees along with their friends and families to donate their time in self-contained daily projects that benefit charities and nonprofits. For the firm’s 50th anniversary, Brownstein plans to complete 50 Karma Projects in 2018.
