May 02, 2024

Mark Begich, Nadeam Elshami, Greta Joynes, Marc Lampkin and Adam Steinmetz—members of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Government Relations Department in Washington, D.C.—were included on Washingtonian’s annual 500 Most Influential People Shaping Policy List.

Begich was recognized on the list for the third consecutive year. He brings a distinguished career in public service with decades of experience as an entrepreneur to provide strategic counsel that impacts business growth. Begich represented Alaska in the U.S. Senate from 2009 to 2015 after serving as mayor of Anchorage for six years. Now, he provides Brownstein clients with insight into what makes local, state and federal policymakers “tick,” and he develops messaging that tracks closely with policymakers’ thinking. He was recognized in the Infrastructure & Transportation category.

Elshami serves as the managing director of the firm’s Washington, D.C., office and co-chair of the Government Relations Department. He served for 25 years in Congress, beginning his career in the Senate mailroom and departing as chief of staff to former House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). He remains front and center in the nation’s most pressing policy debates, navigating complex caucus politics to thread the needle on issues related to health care, emerging technology, energy, transportation and infrastructure. He was recognized in the Business & Labor category.

Joynes is co-chair of the firm’s technology and telecommunications practice. As federal policymakers consider industry-altering laws and regulations on data privacy, supply chain security, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, energy, infrastructure and transportation, Joynes positions companies for success. Her technical understanding of clients’ businesses and political intuition on when and how to engage the government on their behalf has resulted in market-changing outcomes for small business coalitions, Series-A startups and Fortune 15 corporations. She was recognized in the Tech & Telecom category.

Lampkin is a highly respected advisor and veteran Republican lobbyist, bringing years of political, legislative and campaign experience to bear for his clients. On the Hill, he is well-respected for his role as a member of House Speaker John A. Boehner's (R-OH) "Team Boehner.” Since entering the private sector in 2001, Lampkin has put his political acumen to work navigating matters from both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, from the White House to the Capitol and across the Senate to the House and led many high-profile public advocacy campaigns in Washington. He was recognized in the Business & Labor category.

Steinmetz navigates the federal health policy landscape for clients, having worked directly on health-related budgetary spending issues during his service as a policy advisor on the House Budget Committee. He provides clients with insight into how health policy moves, both on the Hill and within federal agencies, and positions clients at inflection points in the process to advance their goals. He was recognized in the Business & Labor category.
